The Russian military actions in Crimea have sparked a sanction regime. This paper attempts to analyze the impact of these sanctions under the CISG. It begins with an overview of economic sanctions and moves on to discuss the impact of these sanctions on contractual obligations undertaken by the parties. This is followed by a discussion on the effect of these sanctions on arbitration clauses contained in these contracts. The author finally concludes by emphasizing on the impact of such sanctions on existing as well as future contracts.
