To some ears these two functions will sound incompatible with each other, but are they? Experience around the world shows that these two roles and functions can be intertwined, although there are some legal and practical limits. It is difficult, although not impossible, for someone to be effective as both an arbitrator and a mediator since entirely different sets of skills and mindsets are required for each role.
